This council is currently chaired by
Fianna Fáil’s Arthur McDonald.
There are nine elected representatives
and this current council consists of five Fianna Fáil, two Fine Gael,
and two Labour. The balance of power is held by Fianna Fail.
Some of the key issues for this council are a
high level of unemployment, planning issues concerning the Mill site and
unfinished housing estates and properties, and attracting large
companies to the town.
The
following people have indicated that they will be standing for election
in the Local Elections in June. Further information on more candidates
who declare themselves for election will be added as it becomes
available.
