On June 5th tens of thousands of voters in Carlow and Kilkenny are eligible to go to the polls to elect members of their Local Authorities in Carlow and Kilkenny.
In Kilkenny there are 2 Local authorities: Kilkenny County Council which administers the county of Kilkenny and Kilkenny Borough Council which is responsible for the Kilkenny City Borough area.
In Carlow voters will elect members to 3 Local Authorities: Carlow Town Council; Carlow County Council and Muine Bheag Town Council.
The representatives in each of these Local Authorities are elected from individual Electoral Areas.
The Electoral Areas for each of the Local Authorities are as follows:
Kilkenny County Council 26 seats is comprised of 5 Electoral areas:
There has been a change in the number of seats in some electoral areas since the last election in 2004.

- Kilkenny [7 seats unchanged]
- Piltown [6 seats unchanged]
- Thomastown [4 seats one down from 5]
- Callan [4 seats up one from 3]

Kilkenny Borough Council 12 seats
The electorate for Kilkenny Borough Council is comprised of the population of the Borough of Kilkenny as well as those living in the environs of Kilkenny city. Voters in this area have votes to elect members of both Kilkenny Borough Council and Kilkenny County Council.
